Welcome to the Irving Stage Company Website
The company was founded in 1959 as the Irving Club by a group of enthusiasts anxious to present high quality theatre in West Suffolk. Since then the company has established a fine record for classical and contemporary theatre in the region. The Irving Youth Company was founded in 1986 and merged with the main company several years later. The company continues to provide young actors with the opportunity to work in the Theatre Royal as well as staging their own productions in the other venues. The company played a major role in supporting the restoration of the Theatre Royal both during the I960s and the recent tremendously successful project of 2007.
The company leases a large workshop in Stanton and has an extensive stock of scenery and staging equipment. The company had a long and productive relationship with the West Suffolk Performing Arts Centre when it was based in the Northgate Music and Drama Centre, but now rehearses at Westgate Primary School in Bury St Edmunds. The company provides valuable support to the annual Suffolk Young People’s Theatre Summer School with technical and artistic services. We welcome all members for short or long periods of involvement. You do not have to be an actor. We value those interested in theatre design, costume, make-up, lighting, sound and a gift for rooting out furniture and stage properties. Our main purpose is to create theatre. We do have occasional social events, but they are not our first priority. All members are welcome to pop into rehearsals at anytime where you can have a coffee and share the anxiety. As a registered charity, the company is managed by an elected committee and new members with executive skills are doubly welcomed.
We hope you find success and satisfaction with us.
