Our 50th Gala Evening Saturday 12th December 2009
To celebate the end of our 50th year the Irving Stage Company organised a Gala Evening of entertainment. Topping the bill will be the world-renowned acappella group Out Of The Blue.
Oxford’s all male vocal group have achieved both national and international success with their signature blend of dazzling harmony and outrageously unprofessional choreography. After three successive sell-out runs at the Edinburgh fringe festival, and having performed in front of thousands at prestigious venues including the Lincoln Arts Centre and Nassau Coliseum, New York, the European champions of a cappella are back at the Oxford New Theatre for one night only. With award-winning arrangements of songs by artists ranging from The Beatles and Stevie Wonder to Outkast and Lady Gaga, this is guaranteed fun for all ages and musical tastes.
Sharing the stage with Out Of The Blue will be St. Edmundsbury Male Voice, with over 80 members, one of the largest male voice choirs in the country. S t. Edmundsbury Male Voice Choir was formed in 1988 and has grown to be one of the largest in East Anglia with a wide repertoire of songs from 1940's Swing, Welsh Hymns, Spirituals, Folk Song and more modern material from Musical Theatre and the Charts.The choir has performed extensively throughout the United Kingdom assisting many charitable organisations in their fundraising activities.
The choir has also performed throughout Europe having undertaken tours of Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with tours of Ireland and Bulgaria in the near future. The choir was the first male voice choir in the UK to be invited to sing in the prestigious Estonian Song Festival - they will be taking part in 2009. The choir also recently received an invitation to tour Southern Australia. The choir has recently released their 2nd CD Colours which demonstrated the breadth and depth of their versatility
